Salary: Appointment will be made on the Lecturer Merged Salary Scale at a point in line with Government Pay Policy (€34,214 to €48,572 per annum). Appointment will be made no higher than point 8, i.e. €48,572.

Post Summary

The Department of Philosophy, School of Social Sciences and Philosophy is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Philosophy, to commence on 1st August 2019. Applications are particularly welcome from the subfields of ethical and/or political philosophy.

Applicants will be expected to possess a PhD in Philosophy and a sound research profile, relative to career stage, in their area of specialization. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including the design and coordination of general modules for first and second-year students and specialised, research-led modules for honors students, and dissertation supervision at all levels.

The Department is seeking an individual with vision and enthusiasm, a genuine commitment to the vital roles of teaching and research, including flair for innovation in course design and teaching methods, and with candidates having an established record of research and clear potential for future research accomplishment. The successful candidate will be an engaged member of the Philosophy community and will also be required to undertake administrative responsibilities as directed by the Head of Department.
