The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences is a new department at the University of Essex bringing together physiotherapy, sports therapy, and sports and exercise sciences, and also including the Human Performance Unit.

The Role and Duties

The Outreach Assistant will work as part of the School’s Human Performance Unit team to deliver activities within targeted schools and colleges to promote the School and develop, organise and deliver outreach events. Through the delivery of interactive taster sessions, including but not limited to, exercise physiology, sports nutrition and novel training methods (i.e. altitude training), the Outreach Assistant will deliver both practical and theory sessions to individuals aged 16 – 18 years across the East of England. They will also be responsible for maintenance of the scientific equipment used during outreach activities and the documentation of metrics that relate to each school engagement.

Qualifications and Skills Required

The successful candidate will hold a degree or an equivalent qualification. In addition, you will also have experience of delivering education projects, activities or events as well as an understanding of the principles associated with exercise physiology and metabolism, altitude training and sports nutrition. You will have excellent organisational and communication skills with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate with the willingness and ability to travel within the East of England, which may at times require working outside of normal office hours

This is a fixed-term, part-time post for 6 months, for 21.6 hours per week. As part of the post you will need to fulfil the requirements of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
