Grade 8: £39,992 – £47,722 with a discretionary range to £52,132 p.a.

We have an opportunity for an experienced software engineer to work on the EPSRC funded VADA project for up to 6 months, in the area of reasoning over big data and knowledge graphs. The post will be under the direction of Professor Georg Gottlob and Dr Emanuel Sallinger in the context of the VADA “Value Added Data Systems” project. The objective of the project is to develop the next generation of reasoning systems.

You will be required to fill the role of a senior software engineer, spanning the entire range of the software engineering process. In particular, you will work on the reasoning system of the VADA project which will include extension to new fields of application, implementation of application scenarios, and adaption of the system to fulfil requirements.

You will have a PhD degree in a relevant field such as computer science (or related discipline). Proven experience in the software development of logic-based reasoning systems, with a good publication record. You will be proficient in software engineering in general and Java in particular with the ability to create well documented software design with an organised approach to structuring and commenting code. You will be able to develop, maintain and evaluate an information system and to integrate software components, along with a good knowledge and attitude towards software testing using automated unit techniques. The ability to manage your own workload, while interacting with the team is important as well as good communication and interpersonal skills and a willingness to collaborate with others.
