This senior lectureship is a teaching and research position. This post relates specifically to a collaboration between Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and the Humanitarian Conflict Response Institute at the University of Manchester and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). Together a higher education programme for MSF personnel called the Leadership Education Academic Partnership (LEAP) has been designed in order to deliver an educational programme that will teach the leading humanitarians of tomorrow. Using a flexible learning approach, it will consist of a mixture of a taught master’s course, with course units in for example: research methods, the management of change and humanitarian management.

The Humanitarian Conflict Response Institute has developed a novel configuration for research and teaching which uniquely associates academics, practitioners, non-governmental organisation (NGO) partners, policy makers and analysts in sustained intellectual engagement. We offer a flexible approach to the provision of research and taught programmes so as to cater for the current needs of the aid industry as well as prepare the next generation of crisis response researchers and practitioners.

You will have research and teaching expertise on humanitarian relief work, humanitarian aid and humanitarian issues more broadly defined. Your teaching should be both research-led and responsive to the operational needs of MSF in terms of issues such as project management, resource allocation change leadership and negotiation issues. As a Senior Lecturer, you will be expected to have a proven and sustained record of successful teaching and learning innovation, to demonstrate significant contributions to academic enterprise and knowledge transfer, and to have a record of high quality research outputs and research enterprise.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applications from the black and minority ethnic (BME) community who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.  All appointments will be made on merit.
