We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join the University’s Information Compliance Team. This small but busy team handles the University’s compliance with data protection and freedom of information legislation, including: processing subject access and freedom of information requests; advising colleagues across the University on data protection; responding to data security incidents; drafting policies and procedures; and the delivery of training. The team is responsible for leading the University’s preparations for changes in information law, including the adoption of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in May 2018.
The post holder will be a key member of the team, with management responsibility for two other members of staff. He or she will have an excellent opportunity to experience compliance work spanning the breadth of the University’s activity, and to take responsibility for important areas of work in the context of an evolving regulatory environment.
The successful applicant will have extensive experience of processing subject access and freedom of information requests and/or the provision of legal advice in respect of the same; proven ability to understand legislation and other regulatory documentation and processes; excellent information retrieval, analytical and problem-solving skills; strong interpersonal and organisational skills; the ability to manage a small team that fulfils operational functions as well as supporting the strategic/policy aspects of its work; evidence of diplomacy and sensitivity, sound judgement and a proven understanding of the need for confidentiality; and strength of character with a commitment to completing tasks even under tight deadlines.
