This is an ideal opportunity for a post-doctoral researcher with very strong quantitative skills and interests in genomics, social science and education to develop their career. The post is based at the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit at the University of Bristol within Prof George Davey Smith’s research programme. The post will work closely with Prof Gerard van den Berg in the Department of Economics.
The post holder will play a key role as the scientific link between genetic epidemiologists, economists, geographers and other social scientists. They will identify appropriate analytic methods to apply to new research questions, in particular using large datasets of genome-wide data such as the UK Biobank. The successful candidate will undertake complex statistical analysis and write up research outputs as first author and submit them for publication in peer-reviewed journals. They will also have the opportunity for training and present the results of the research to conferences.
The post holder must have strong quantitative analytical skills and have, or expect to have a PhD in quantitative geography, medical statistics, epidemiology, econometrics or other relevant quantitative science. The ability to manage and analyse large datasets is essential, as is the ability to write up and communicate scientific findings. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of publications in peer reviewed journals. Experience of writing research proposals and teaching at MSc level and/or supervising PhD students is desirable.
