University of Bath – Mathematical Sciences
|Contract Type:||Contract / Temporary|
|Placed on:||5th April 2017|
|Closes:||7th May 2017|
Contract Type: Fixed-term for 36 months, with an anticipated start date of 1 August 2017.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath is looking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work on the EPSRC funded project Left 3-Engel elements in groups’. This is a three year project with an anticipated start date of 1st August 2017 and end date 31st July 2020. The project is centred on working towards resolving the long standing question whether left 3-Engel elements in any given group must always be contained in the locally nilpotent radical.
Candidates must have PhD (or equivalent qualification) in Mathematics and preferably in Group Theory, or some closely related algebraic discipline. It is desirable if the candidate has already some research record within one of the following research areas: `finite p-groups’, `Engel conditions in groups’ or `Lie ring methods in group theory’. Some preference will be given to applicants that have some experience in computational algebra and in particular some familiarity with GAP. The post-holder will be a highly motivated individual who will contribute well to the research project itself and to the department as a whole. The position carries an additional £3,000 in total to contribute towards travel expenses of the post-holder that are incurred in attending conferences and research visits.
Informal enquiries are welcome and should be directed to Dr G. Traustason (email@example.com) who will be the principal investigator of the project.
The University of Bath is an equal opportunities employer and has an excellent international reputation with staff from over 60 different nations. To achieve our global aspirations, we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
