Applications are invited for a Research Assistant in Functional Genomics to join an established team with a track record of innovation and high impact research in the functional genomics of immunity led by Professor Julian Knight at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics (WTCHG).
We seek a highly motivated, proactive individual who will benefit from the exceptional research environment at WTCHG. You will play a key role in an exciting new research programme to investigate the functional basis of extreme innate immune response phenotypes contributing to diseases ranging from auto-inflammatory states to sepsis, with the goal of advancing understanding of functional alleles, mechanisms of gene regulation, pathophysiology and therapeutic opportunities. You will be responsible for managing the ongoing sample collection, delivering cell culture and cell purification work together with cloning, sequencing and general molecular biology. You will also play a role in the application of different ‘omic approaches and immunological assays to samples together with opportunities to functionally characterise putative regulatory variants.
You will have a degree in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology or related field and a demonstrable interest in the research described here. You will also have an experience in tissue culture and working with primary human cells together with standard molecular biology techniques as well as having demonstrable high level of communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to organise and prioritise work to efficiently deliver results to the required standard and to an agreed schedule.
