University of Oxford – Translational Gastroenterology Unit

We seeking a Research Assistant to join the Translational Gastroenterology Unit (TGU), Nuffield Department of Medicine, Oxford. You will work in this unit, which brings together scientists and clinicians with the objective of applying fundamental research in mucosal immunology to the understanding and treatment of gastrointestinal disease. We are working in a very exciting project looking into microbial-host interactions involved in obesity and in the response to bariatric surgery. This translational medicine project will give you the opportunity to interact not only with scientists, but also with surgeons, physicians and patients giving you a comprehensive exposure to different healthcare communities.

As our Research Assistant, your responsibilities will include processing blood, stool samples, intestinal tissue and other donor samples to extract high quality DNA, RNA and serum, in addition to cell culture, maintenance of accurate patients’ records in accordance with GCP guidelines and much more.

You will hold a degree in a relevant biological subject, including Immunology and/or microbiology and have previous experience of molecular biology and cell culture.

The post is full-time and fixed-term for up to 12 months initially.
