Summary of Role
As one of the University’s largest Schools, the School of Education has a central role in advancing the research and teaching standing of the University. Working under the support and guidance of the Programmes Team Leader, the Programme Administrator is a member of the School’s Programme Office, providing professional and proactive administrative support in the delivery of the School’s taught programmes. The Programme Office programmes teams have collective responsibility for supporting the School’s programmes and students, with each Programme Administrator having individual responsibility for a particular portfolio of programmes (including its data).
Key Responsibilities Involved
The post holder will be responsible for the delegated administration of dedicated programmes, for example, student and academic enquires, marks entry and maintenance of student records. The post holder will need to be able to work independently, to prioritise and to plan their own workload as well as work with other Professional Services colleagues. A customer focus is essential, since the post holder will be required to work closely with Professional Service, Academic and Senior Managers to develop and implement changes to procedures where necessary. The post-holder will be expected to use a great deal of tact, discretion and patience in dealing with confidential matters and will need to use their own judgement in dealing with the many and varied problems presented by students.
Occasional weekend work may be required (for which advanced notice will be given).
The Post holder will need to have a good all round education preferably to ‘A’ level or equivalent but with a minimum 5 GCSE passes A-C including English Language (or equivalent).
In addition, they will have significant experience in a similar administrative role, preferably in Higher Education, excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills and an ability to work independently and on own initiative with problem solving skills and as part of a team. An understanding of the principles and implementation of the Data Protection and Freedom of Information Acts is desirable.
