You will lead one of three work packages associated with a Leverhulme Research Leadership Award granted to the newly formed DEEP research group ( You will document and attempt to explain variations in geomagnetic behaviour occurring on timescales of tens of millions of years and longer, focusing particularly on estimating polarity reversal frequency between the Silurian and early Carboniferous. This will require you to work alongside other Postdoctoral Researchers and Academics and provide guidance to PhD students. You will further be expected to publish first-authored research papers in high-ranking journals and present at international conferences. You should have PhD (or be about to obtain) in geology or geophysics or related field with appropriate experience and have a track-record of publishing peer-reviewed research articles in international journals. A PhD in magnetostratigraphy or a related discipline is desirable. You will have an enthusiastic approach to the aims of the overall project and work, as part of an outstanding multidisciplinary team aiming to expand the application of palaeomagnetic records to studies of Earth’s deep interior. Experience of undertaking magnetostratigraphic investigations and geological fieldwork would be advantageous. The post will be available immediately until 31 December 2020.
