Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research assistant to work within the Translational Neuroscience and Dementia Research Group, a multidisciplinary team with biologists, data scientists/informaticians and clinicians, led by Professor Simon Lovestone. Within the group, the informatics team plays a central role in analysing various biomedical data from large collaborative programmes including the UK Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) system.
You will be based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital, Oxford.
The post is for a fixed-term (funded to 31 October 2018 with the possibility of extension).
You will extract medical information from unstructured text in the UK-CRIS database using natural language processing (NLP) and establish NLP pipelines across multiple NHS Trusts within the UK-CRIS network. This role offers an exciting opportunity for someone with background in computer science and/or NLP to develop skills and experiences in health care and biomedical areas, especially neuroscience and dementia.
You will have or be close to completion of a PhD in computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, informatics or a relevant discipline, along with proficiency in programming skills that can be used for NLP, e.g. JAVA and Python. Experience with large relational databases would be desirable as would experience with biomedical/clinical data analysis.
You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement and a CV as part of your application.
The closing date for this post is 12.00 midday on 8 May 2017.
