Full time 100% fte: 12 months fixed term.

The University of Birmingham is delighted to offer this highly regarded Research Fellow post that has been established to support the delivery of the National Institute for Health Research (Health Technology Assessment) funded Paediatric Early Rehabilitation / Mobilisation during InTensive care (PERMIT) feasibility study. The PERMIT study brings together multi-disciplinary leading academics and clinicians from around the UK to investigate the emerging therapy of Early Rehabilitation and Mobilisation in paediatric intensive care and to establish the feasibility of performing, and design, of a future randomised controlled trial within the National Health Service.

This post is an opportunity for a bright, enthusiastic and self-driven individual to undertake research to assess the acceptability and feasibility of Early Rehabilitation and Mobilisation.

The key tasks (with appropriate supervision) are to deliver the phase one research objective of the PERMIT study which are:

  1. Design, gain appropriate regulatory authorisation (eg HRA ethics), project manage and deliver a multi-centre observational ‘point prevalence’ cohort study
  2. Design and deliver a survey of professional opinions
  3. Design and perform a scoping literature review.
  4. Analyse and publish results.

Person Specification:

  • Relevant first or postgraduate degree ideally in (but not limited to) a numerate, scientific, biomedical or health related subject.
  • Critical thinking, analytical skills and an aptitude for the role.
  • Relevant research experience and/or post-graduate study in observational study methodology, survey design and scoping literature reviews.
  • Demonstrate good time management and project management skills

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £30,395 to £39,609. With potential progression once in post to £42,036 a year
