Job offer in england Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Popular Music – University of Gloucestershire

Grade 7/8

As a result of significant expansion in Music at the University of Gloucestershire, we are looking to appoint a full-time course-leader for our BA (Hons) in Popular Music. The successful applicant will lead a highly successful and in-demand undergraduate programme, and will take an active role in its ongoing development.

In particular, we are looking for a practising musician with research and undergraduate teaching experience, who has a background in songwriting, live performance and musicianship, and who can demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the way in which popular and commercial music practices are evolving in response to a range of digital, audiovisual and economic contexts.

Music as a subject area is part of the award-winning Media School at Gloucestershire, and recruiting to this post reflects a broad set of developments in Music, that include a growing and increasingly diverse student population, newly validated courses in Music Business and Creative Music Technology, and a digitally networked suite of rehearsal and recording facilities and music labs that opened in 2016, which have allowed for a range of innovative teaching, learning and production activities. In addition, we have enhanced the vocational and critical breadth of our undergraduate portfolio by drawing increasingly on the research agendas that underpin our taught provision, where our key focus areas include music in relation to moving image, identity, culture, contemporary thought and digital economies, as well as audiovisual and wearable technologies.

The Media School employs a range of staff who continue to combine their academic role with creative and professional practice, and as a result, we have gained an excellent reputation for high standards and a progressive approach to teaching, with strong industry links with labels and promoters, UK festivals, publishers, as well as broadcast and media agencies.
