The Department of Accounting and Finance at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) invites applications for a Junior Academic in Accounting or Finance from candidates who would like to pursue their PhD in Accounting or Finance at Lancaster University. The position combines enrolment into the full-time PhD Program in Accounting and Finance and teaching-related duties in academic programs offered by the Department. The purpose of the role is to undertake a PhD while gaining teaching-related experience. You will be working alongside world leading academics in a busy, exciting and innovative department. This post is part of LUMS efforts to further strengthen its academic standing as a world class business school. The role is equally suited to a recent Masters graduate or an experienced professional with a Masters-level qualification who is interested in transitioning into an academic career.
The Department offers a PhD Program in Accounting and Finance. PhD students are required to complete a portfolio of PhD level courses and seminars covering accounting and finance theory, econometric and statistical methods and research methodology. Upon successfully completing the course work, you will work on your research as a part of your PhD dissertation. You will also have the opportunity to gain international experience by visiting a leading US school with expertise in a relevant research area. You should be committed to completing your PhD degree in accounting or finance, and should meet the requirements for the enrolment into the PhD program. You should also be committed to pursuing an academic career. You should be able to pursue your own independent research programme under the supervision of a team of experienced supervisors. You should have competence to assess and potentially deliver material at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Applications arriving after that date will be considered if the position is not filled. Additionally, all candidates applying after 15 January 2018 will be considered for the PhD scholarship. The application package must contain a cover letter, CV, degree transcripts for Masters and undergraduate study, two letters of reference (at least one of which should be an academic reference), and examples of academic writing (e.g., research proposal, Master thesis). Start date: 1 October 2018
The position has a fixed duration of 5 years, and you are expected to complete your PhD by the end of year 5. You need to be eligible to work in the EU/EEA for this post.
