We are currently seeking to appoint a dynamic leader and manager as Head of Subject for Photography. The role holder will be responsible to the Director of the Institute of Photography for the academic leadership, operational management, and business performance of their Subject area.

The Head of Subject will be responsible for a portfolio that includes the highly successful BA (Hons) Photography and MA Photography courses. The BA course is renowned for supporting students in the development of their own individual way of seeing the world, whether interested in a commercial, gallery, fashion, or editorial career. A team of active photographic practitioners teaches the course, with students benefiting directly from a rich and far reaching professional network.

Our MA Photography is a truly international online course that aims to equip students with the knowledge, understanding, and skills to meaningfully engage with a technologically and socially evolving medium. The programme is designed to accommodate a broad range of practitioners, from those who use photography to interrogate the world around them to those whose practice interrogates the medium itself.

The Head of Subject is responsible for the development of the Subject area and will provide support and leadership to academic staff including Course Coordinators. You will work closely with the University as well as external partners and will be responsible for the management of resources and Quality Assurance and Enhancement.

As Head of Subject, you will have significant knowledge and understanding of professional contemporary photographic practice and an advanced research/practice profile of your own. You will also have excellent communication skills and the commitment to design and deliver an outstanding learning experience for the students, whether campus-based or online. You will be joining a dynamic subject area that is globally networked, both in terms of its staff and its students, as well as links with other international institutions.
