Grade 9 – Full time starting salary is normally in the range £49,148 to £56,950. With potential progression once in post to £74,259 a year.
The University of Birmingham is looking for a highly skilled project/programme manager to join the senior management team of the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE). Already host to the largest university-based railway group in the UK and one of the largest in Europe, BCRRE is set to grow significantly. The University of Birmingham has recently been awarded substantial funding to lead a collaborative network of industry and academia, establishing three Centres of Excellence, one of which will be based in Birmingham. Together, these Centres of Excellence will deliver £64 million worth of research, innovation and development projects across the railway industry over the 8-year funding window, as well as £28 million of capital investment. The University of Birmingham’s Centre of Excellence will involve building, establishing and operating a new £16m Digital Systems Innovation Centre (DSIC) and delivering around £35m of research programmes over the next 10 years. This will form a core element of the wider BCRRE, working with its 125+ academic and research staff, delivering extensive new multi-disciplinary projects in collaboration with multiple partners across the university and industry, with significant research impact.
This new role requires a skilled negotiator and strategist in order to meet the challenging timeframe and the needs of our multiple stakeholders which include: the university, its architect and building contractors, neighbours, industry partners, network partners and other public/private bodies. The post-holder will work across the institution, our partners at other universities and with Industry to meet the requirements of both the funders and BCRRE business objectives. They will hold accountability for both DSIC and BCRRE activity to deliver maximum impact and benefit. The successful candidate will establish the management and governance processes for BCRRE and the Centres of Excellence, manage the many stakeholders across all levels, including industry partners, funding bodies, policy makers, politicians, railway industry bodies and colleagues throughout the university.
