About the opportunity:

The Head of Department will have responsibility for leading and managing the academic provision within the Department, heading up the departmental management team and sharing the responsibility for achieving key performance targets, both at Department and Faculty level and working collaboratively to deliver objectives. 

The department is a consistently strong performer and as a result we are looking for someone to shape the direction moving forward and at the same time lead us even further up the league tables.

This will include the opportunity to connect with our vibrant regional economy in the subject area and beyond.

There are over 70 academic colleagues based in the Department in areas such as computer science, forensic computing, information management, web design and development, digital media, computer security, music technology, games technology, experience design and software engineering. Our colleagues conduct world-class research in unconventional computing, large scale distributed systems, data processing and embedded systems; in collaboration with academia and the buoyant computing and creative industries powering the successful City of Bristol.

The Head of Department will work alongside the Pro Vice-Chancellor/Executive Dean, the Deputy Dean, the Associate Dean for learning Teaching and Student Experience, as well as 3 other Heads of Department, the Faculty Business Manager and the Head of Technical Services.

A Professorial title will be considered for the right candidate.

About you:

You are likely to have substantial experience at senior manager level within an education based organisation of comparable size and complexity – and you are now looking to progress to the next level.

You will possess a substantial record of achievement as an academic, covering teaching, research and professional practice. Ideally this will be in the field of Computer Science, although we welcome applications from other disciplines.
