University of Exeter – Waste Management Team, Devon County Council

A graduate is required at Devon County Council (though you will be employed by the University of Exeter) to work on several waste management projects, including changing behaviour, promoting schools waste education work, and supporting the Waste@work scheme. This post is available immediately for 6 months and is part of the Graduate Business Partnerships scheme.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose of Role

a) To assist with a variety of tasks to change the behaviour of the Devon public in relation to reducing, reusing, and recycling their waste; including:

  • Behavioural Change evidence – updating the Waste Prevention toolkit and investigating using others.
  • Expanding the Mailing Preference Service project.
  • Managing the exhibition van Health & Safety review/writing staff briefing notes on operating equipment.
  • In relation to the website www.Recycledevon.org.
  • Design, create and populate a #ThrowTogetherThursday area on the site (115+ recipes).
  • Site review – check content is up to date, grammar, and links working.
  • A to Z improvements.
  • Manage enquiries.
  • Social Media – assist with PR Calendar planning and monitoring.
  • Assist with events – attendance/exhibition material.

b) To assist with a variety of tasks in relation to promoting schools waste education work, including:

  • Up dating the education pages on www.recycledevon.org websites.
  • Monitoring mailboxes and distribute messages as appropriate.
  • Promote waste education workshops by researching promotional opportunities for schools.
  • Financial administration.
  • Handling enquiries by email and phone.
  • Occasional assistance with school visits to the Energy Recovery Facilities in Exeter and Plymouth.

c) To assist with a variety of tasks in relation to Waste@work scheme, including:

  • Up dating the internal Waste@work webpages.
  • Liaison with facilities managers internally on waste issues.
  • Monitoring mailboxes and distribute messages as appropriate.
  • Promote office furniture reuse site WARPit.
  • Handling enquiries by email and phone.

The postholder will also undertake any other duties commensurate with this level of post and as assigned by the line manager.

Training and Development opportunities

If the graduate has any gaps in their knowledge or understanding they will be trained as appropriate.

Level of Support

The graduate will be supported and supervised by the Senior Waste Managers for Communications and Special projects.
