Job overview: UWE Bristol is an ambitious university. Together, our people are working hard to advance knowledge, inspire people and transform futures. We are looking for people with the skills and ambition to help us achieve those aims.
We are a well-established university, with over 27,000 students, 250,000 alumni and 3,000 staff. Students come to study with us from all over the UK, as well as from 140 different countries around the world, making this a diverse and interesting place to come and study.
The Graduate Tutor role is an academic development scheme which has been specifically designed to develop highly motivated, high performing graduates into academic leaders of the future, by providing them with a structured career pathway set within a supportive yet challenging environment. Doctoral tuition fees are included in the remuneration package for this role.
The Department of Computer Science of Creative Technologies is currently seeking to appoint a graduate tutor in Computer Science to contribute to our research in Artificial Intelligence. Speech interfaces such as Apple’s Siri and Google’s Alexa are now commonplace, yet barriers to industrial adoption of this technology include a lack of standardised knowledge bases, and tooling for designing the narrative structure of conversational interfaces. The post is open to graduates with an interest in speech & conversational interfaces, and methods for ensuring that the underlying code is verifiably correct against a semantic model. Relevant technologies include Google’s speech API, ChatScript, Clojure, and semantic modelling including OWL ontologies.
