About the role

NERC Head Office is seeking a Functional Support Analyst to work in the Information Services Team in Swindon.

Although advertised as full time, part time working will be considered.

The role is within the NERC Research Technology Services Team, which provides Information Technology Information Services (IT IS) support to NERC and its Research Centres: British Antarctic Survey, British Geological Survey, Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and the National Oceanographic Centre.   

The team provides support for Sharepoint and video conferencing, project and resource management (Changepoint) and electronic records management (Objective). 

The role involves helping and advising users, addressing technical issues and development of the services. The work spans the complete project life cycle. Whilst the role is an IT one, user engagement is key to the success of these services so an ability to communicate with business users at all levels is vital.  The work can involve visits to the NERC Research Centres.

This is an exciting time to be joining the team.  We are moving the NERC Sharepoint system to a cloud based service (Microsoft Office 365) and rolling out improved Business Intelligence for project reporting. 

An aptitude to learn new IT systems, combined with a flexible and adaptable approach, is more important than specialist technical knowledge. Training will be provided where required.
