University of Warwick – Warwick Medical School

The student will investigate the impact of a novel sexual health service provided by community pharmacies on patients, pharmacy staff and the wider society. The project will also define the training needs of pharmacy staff and explore how the service can be further developed and optimized, both in the West Midlands and nationally.

It is envisaged that the PhD project will include:

  • a review of relevant literature informed by realist philosophy
  • a systematic review of the effectiveness of interventions to deliver sexual health care in pharmacies
  • observational studies in community pharmacies to investigate enablers and barriers to service delivery
  • qualitative studies with service users, pharmacy staff and commissioners using interviews and focus groups

Value: This 3 year studentship covers full tuition fees at the Home/EU rate and an annual stipend at the standard RCUK rate (£14,553 – 2017-2018) and will start in October 2017.
