Job offer in england Database Application Developer at University of Oxford

University of Oxford – Department for Continuing Education

An experienced and skilled database application developer is required by the Department for Continuing Education. We are one of the largest departments of the University, with more than 15,000 part-time students attending courses, workshops and conferences every year.

Reporting to the Business Systems Development Manager, you will be responsible for building and maintaining our in-house web application, and maintaining databases which are built on Microsoft SQL and PostgreSQL. You will provide support for internal users and be able to rapidly build ad-hoc reports.

You will be educated to degree level in a computing or an IT-related subject or be able to offer the equivalent in terms of professional training and experience. You will have an ability to work with a range of server-side and client-side technologies – like MS SQL, PostgreSQL, HTML, Javascript, and CSS – and have experience developing database-driven websites or web applications (we use Python, but experience in Ruby, PHP, etc. would do as well).  Experience using an MVC web framework (e.g. Django, web2py, AngularJS) would be an advantage.

You will need a methodical approach to fault finding, and have the ability to define specifications and manage the delivery of database-based projects. Excellent interpersonal skills and being capable of working collaboratively as part of a team on complex projects are also crucial.

Candidates who do not meet all the selection criteria but consider themselves closely suited to the role are encouraged to apply and will be considered for appointment at the appropriate grade.

The Department offers opportunities for personal and professional development.

The appointment is for a fixed-term of 12 months in the first instance.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 8 May 2017.
