Free open Job in Australasia Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Human Services at University of Canterbury, New Zealand
The Department of Human Services and Social Work offers a BA in Human Services and takes pride in offering the only postgraduate degrees in Human Services in New Zealand (Honours, MA, and PhD).
Internationally, Human Services is a growing academic discipline in the social sciences that involves analysing, critiquing, and debating the contexts, activities, structure, and organisation of human service organisations and professions. Undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Human Services prepare graduates for positions in local, national, and global human service agencies, including in the third sector (not-for-profit organisations or NGOs) and government departments. The Human Services major offers five study pathways at undergraduate level, comprising health and family systems, work and organisational systems, youth development, local and global community development, and violence and criminal justice systems.
We are looking for a focussed, research active academic proficient in teaching and pedagogical practice. The ability to foster collegiality by developing links with other College academic units and research centres (including our Social Work programme), is highly desirable; as is the initiative to integrate technology into teaching, and the passion to engage and encourage students. Preference may be given to applicants with a PhD in human services, public sociology, development studies, criminal justice, or a similar critical social science discipline.
The University of Canterbury is committed to promoting a world-class learning environment through research and teaching excellence, and has a vision statement of “People Prepared to Make a Difference”. You will have the opportunity to work alongside members of a diverse academic community and enrich your own professional and personal development.
