The School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics (SMAS) at the University of Wollongong (UOW) is within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences. SMAS is a dynamic and active mathematical sciences school with an exceptional research record. The National Institute for Applied Statistics Research Australia (NIASRA) is a major contributor to the school’s research through its Centre for Biometry and Bioinformatics, Centre for Environmental Informatics, Centre for Sample Survey Methodology, and Statistical Consulting Centre. Its objective is to achieve excellence in applied statistics research by undertaking high-quality and high-impact research, consulting, and professional education and training. It collaborates extensively with researchers in government and industry and also within UOW on selected projects. It has over 25 staff members including research professors Ray Chambers, Noel Cressie, Brian Cullis, and David Steel.

This position will carry out teaching, research, governance and community outreach/professional service duties consistent with a Lecturer Level B position, equivalent to an Assistant Professor position in the USA. This role will be a member of the NIASRA and contribute to a new research project on developing novel machine learning techniques for statistical spatio-temporal models. This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the most vibrant and successful applied statistics group in the country. It will also be expected that this position undertake lecturing duties and teach students in our Mathematics degrees and in other disciplines.
